Allegra Giovine is a doctoral candidate in the Department of History and Sociology of Science at the University of Pennsylvania.  During 2015-2016, she is an Exchange Scholar with the Department of Science & Technology Studies at Cornell University.  Her dissertation looks at the production of vernacular knowledge about the economy in colonial Burma.  She is broadly interested in the history of economics, geography, cartography, and mineralogy; the historical geography of books; and the social and cultural history of markets and economic life.
