Hughes Lounge, 3rd Floor Cohen Hall

This is a works-in-progress session, discussing papers by two of our graduate students.  Feel free to join for one or both conversations:

4:30-5:00 PM: “Coal, A Mineral Formed by Vegetables: Plant Fossils and the Evolution of Botanical Commodities in Early Modern Europe” by Claire Sabel

Claire will be presenting her paper at a meeting of the Natural Things project at Hamilton college in April. Natural Things is a global natural history project in the digital humanities based out of Stanford University.

5:00-6:00 PM:  "Let Chromosomes Speak: The Cytogenetics Project at the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission (ABCC)"  by Sumiko Hatakeyama

Sumiko's paper will be part of the Journal of the History of Biology's special issue “Telling the Stories of Radiation Exposure”. She will also be presenting this paper at the upcoming JAS-Bio.

We will be pre-circulating the papers individually to anyone who is planning to attend. Please do let us know if you will be joining the meeting and we can share the papers with you.

Please email Nikhil Dharan (njdharan@sas.upenn.edu) or Koyna Tomar (koynat@sas.upenn.edu) for copies.
