Collaborative Pedagogies in the Global History of Science

This will be an opportunity for all of us to think about the challenges of responding to the global turn in the history of science in our teaching. We will share what the Science Beyond the West group been up to for the past nearly two years, discuss our motivations in organizing our upcoming conference, and then break into small group discussions of how we can all decenter the West in our classes. Given that, please do bring copies of syllabi that you would like to share, reflect upon, and rethink.

This workshop is intended to raise issues regarding teaching the global history of science that will be taken up further at the conference. However, we also hope it will spark a conversation in our department that can continue well into the future. None of us are experts in all time periods and places, and we all struggle to competently teach things outside our area of specialization. Our aspiration is that we can begin to think collaboratively as a department about better and more productive ways through this impasse. We look forward to seeing you there.

Best wishes,
