Major Requirements - STSC
The STSC major requires the completion of fourteen (14) credit units. This means that thirty-four (34) cu are required to graduate.
1-2. Core Courses ( 2 cu) - These two courses are required of all STSC majors:
STSC 001 Emergence of Modern Science
STSC 003 Technology and Society
3-7. STSC or HSOC Electives (5 cu) - Five courses chosen from department offerings
8-13. Field of Concentration Courses (6 cu) - Six approved courses in ONE of these fields (follow link to templates for each field) No more than two introductory courses from outside the department may be included in the 6-course field of concentration.

Business and Information Technology
Energy, Environment and Technology
History and Sociology of Science
Policy Studies
Science and Society
Note: All courses listed on the templates automatically satisfy field of concentration requirements. Courses not listed on these templates may be approved by submitting a
petition to the STSC Chair (Dr. Ensmenger) or Coordinator (Dr. Greene).
14. Capstone Research Requirement (1 cu) : This requirement is fulfilled by successful completion of any 400-level HSOC or STSC course designated as a Capstone course taken in spring of junior year or fall of senior year.
Total credits needed to complete the STSC major = 14
(34 cu needed to graduate)
Note: No course may double count within the major.
(15.) Writing A Senior Thesis for Honors in the STSC Major
Students who wish to write a senior thesis for honors in the major are required to take HSOC 420 (research seminar) in the spring of junior year (this satisfies their capstone requirement) and HSOC 498 (honors thesis) in the fall of senior year.
