"What Is It to Give an Ontology?"

Abstract: Science never gives us theories that are both completely precise and completely accurate.  Consequently science never tells us exactly what there is.  The same considerations that apply in science apply also to “every day” objects such as stones and chairs.  How then should we think about ontology?

PLEASE NOTE: Our workshop series would normally begin on Monday, September 17th, However, this is the first day of Rosh Hashanah.  Therefore, the first HSS Workshop for the 2012-2013 academic year will occur on Friday, September 14th, at 3 p.m.  This workshop is being co-sponsored by the Penn Department of Philosophy.  Subsequent HSS Workshops will be every Monday at 3:30 pm in 337 Cohen.
